Bar mitzvah photographer
Yehuda Yosifon photographs bar mitzvah celebrations across Israel, from laying tefillin and the aliyah to the Torah through to the meal and the dancing.

A bar mitzvah usually spreads over more than one day, and every part of it has a different character. The first laying of tefillin is a quiet family moment, the aliyah in shul calls for unobtrusive work, and the meal is already a full celebration with many guests.
The coverage is built around the boy rather than around the guests. These are the photographs he will look at in twenty years, so they need to hold both the big moments and the small details: a grandfather's hand on his shoulder, the concentration during the reading, his friends at the end of the evening.
What the coverage includes
- Tefillin and the aliyah
- Quiet work inside the synagogue, without disturbing the service and without a flash that pulls attention away.
- Organised family photographs
- The group photograph list is agreed in advance, so no relative is forgotten in the rush of the evening.
- The meal and the dancing
- Full coverage of the speech, the meal and the dancing, including photographs of the boy with his friends.

Questions about bar mitzvah
Can you cover both the tefillin and the meal?
Yes. Both parts can be covered, including when they fall on separate days. The scope is agreed in advance around the family's plan.
Are you able to photograph inside the synagogue?
Yes, in coordination with the family and the gabbai. The work is done quietly and from the side, without interrupting the service.
How long until we receive the photographs?
A first selection is sent in the days after the event, and the full edited gallery follows, depending on the scale of the event.
