Hour by hour

What a wedding day looks like

From the moment the camera switches on in the morning to the last frame at night. This is the order I work to, and it is worth knowing before you lock the timeline for your day.

  1. Ivory lace and a strand of pearls on cream silk during getting ready

    Morning

    Getting ready

The coverage starts before anyone is dressed. The small details, the hanging dress, the tallit, the shoes and the jewellery, photographed while the room is still quiet and the window light is good.

  2. An open field in afternoon light, a location for the couple's portraits

    Midday

    The couple's outdoor portraits

The only part of the day that can really be planned. The location is chosen in advance for the couple and for the hour of the light, not for what is close to the hall. It is also the only window in which the couple is alone.

  3. An ornate silver kiddush cup on a white embroidered cloth

    16:00

    The reception

This is where the event starts to run. The guests arrive, the two families meet, and there is a short window for the group photographs before everyone goes inside.

  4. The corner of a white chuppah canopy tied to a wooden pole in warm evening light

    18:00

    The chuppah

The moment with no second chance. Positions are agreed with the family in advance: where the walk down is photographed from, where to stand during the blessings, and which relatives must be in frame.

  5. A row of burning candles along a set table during the meal

    19:30

    The meal and the dancing

After the chuppah the mood loosens. The meal, the speeches and the dancing, and inside them the moments that happen on their own between the tables.

  6. Slim candles burning in a hall under low light

    22:00

    The height of the evening

The part where everyone is on the floor. Low light, a great deal of movement, and three generations in a single frame. This is usually the part families return to most in the photographs.

  7. Blurred night lights on a city street, the backdrop for the couple's night portraits

    23:30

    Night portraits of the couple

Once the pressure is over we step outside for a final twenty minutes. City light, an empty street and two people who are finally relaxed. Some of the strongest photographs of the day come from there.

The location is chosen for the couple, not for convenience

Finding places for outdoor portraits is what I invest the most in. A field at the end of the day, a quiet wood, an old stone street or a line of water. A different place suits every couple and every family, and the hour is set by the light rather than by what is convenient in the diary.

The questions every family asks

All questions and answers

How far in advance should we book a photographer?

In season, three to six months ahead is sensible, and earlier still for weddings on popular dates. If your date is close it is worth asking anyway, because dates sometimes open up.

Can a female photographer be arranged for a separate seating event?

Yes. For separate seating events and women only events, a female photographer can be arranged in advance to cover the women's side alongside my own coverage. It is settled in the conversation before the event and included in the quote.

Do you travel anywhere in Israel?

Yes, coverage is available across the country, including Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, Beit Shemesh, Modiin Illit, Elad, Beitar Illit, Ashdod, Netivot, Rechasim and the north.

Do you offer video as well?

No. This is a stills only practice. It is a professional choice rather than a gap: when all of the attention at an event goes into the photographs, the photographs are better.

How much does an event photographer cost?

The price depends on the kind of event, the hours of coverage, the area, and whether an additional photographer is needed. After a short conversation about what you actually need, a written quote is sent.
