An event does not begin on the day of the event. It begins with a conversation that covers the order of the day, the places, the family photograph list and the moments that matter most to you. With all of that settled in advance, on the day itself I can work quietly instead of chasing people.

During the event I try to be as unnoticeable as possible. The best moments happen when people forget there is a camera in the room, so I do not stop the event to stage photographs. The organised photographs are made in the time set aside for them, and everything else is photographed as it happens.

I do not film video, and that is a decision rather than a gap. Stills and video call for two different ways of thinking at the same moment: where to stand, what to wait for, when to press. When you try to do both, both suffer.

The result is that all of my attention during the event goes into the photographs. Those are also the ones that end up framed on a wall and in the album that comes off the shelf.

One of the things I invest the most in is finding places for outdoor portraits. A field at the end of the day, a quiet wood, an old stone street or a line of water. A different place suits every couple and every family, and it is chosen for the people rather than for what is close to the hall.

I travel for sessions across Israel, including ירושלים, בני ברק, בית שמש, מודיעין עילית, אלעד and elsewhere. A distant location is agreed in advance so that it gets real time in the schedule.

Photography is done on cameras writing to two memory cards at once, so a failure on one card does not lose the event. Immediately afterwards the files are backed up to more than one copy before any editing begins.

Photographs are delivered in an online gallery for viewing, selecting and downloading at full quality. Publishing photographs on the website or on social media happens only with your explicit permission, and staying private is the default.
